Twist pendant I made from Black Walnut

I've just gotten into woodcarving, and I would like some advice on what I should look for in terms of maintaining my tools.

At the moment ny Rolls are limited to a straight edged axe, carving knife (mora 162) and a knive (6 hm blade. I'm familiar with sharpening regular knives with whetstones). Any good tips in term of videos is also welcome. I'm from Norway, so this might be an obstacle?

Looking for advice about 80's Narex chisels

Looking for advice about 80's Narex chisels

This set of Narex Extra Chisels popped in my local (Brazil) craigslists/amazon. The guy selling says it's new old stock from the 80's, and it seems to be legit. The price he is asking is equivalent to what would cost me a modern set of Narex chisels. Is theese old sets better or worse than modern ones? I'm starting in woodworking and don't really know much about good quality tools. Looking for advice if i should buy it or not.

Is there a shortage of soft wood?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 04:34 PM PDT

I'm a beginner who's trying to start his first few projects and the closest woodworking store is over an hour away from me.

After doing some research I'm trying to find some wood to get started (ideally basswood or pine) but am having no luck.

Checking online in my area Lowe's, Home Depot, Michaels's, Wal Mart and Target all claimed to have wood working block sets and every single store was sold out.

Do they not usually have a lot, is there a shortage, or are just more people carving during Covid.

Any suggestions? I'm going to the mountains this weekend and am considering just buying a hatchet and carving some green wood but I feel like that would yuck up my knives?
