- My first carved spoon, cherrywood finished with beeswax and coconut oil
- When a Woodcarving turns out way too big and crazy to have in your cabin in the woods....at least I can store it flat on the wall, intended to be that way, not the real life posture, just an artistic representation of our National Power and Mighty. It’s a complex structure crafted from Black Walnut.
- Is whittling with a normal Mora knife a good idea?
- Not bad for 2 hours work. Just need to install some hooks and then they'll be ready to hang on my tree
- Gift ideas for a beginner / intermediate
- Leg...early in the process...wood type: Butternut (a Walnut related Species). Template, sketches, drawings, wood block cut with bandsaw, shaped with both hand and power tools(speeds waste wood removal) The one depicted here goes into a “sitting” Eagle I have been working on.
- Interpretive Bald Eagle Woodcarving side profile view. The shinny finish is due to the protective/sealing nature of a deep rubbing of mixed raw linseed oil and wax...I don’t necessarily like shiny woodcarving finishing, but in this case it was necessary.
- Asked a question about Rose of Sharon wood the other night, this is the result of my whittling it. It was strange, fairly soft but strangely hard to work with. Almost like it had a lot of friction as the blade tried to cut it. It was still green so she may help.
- Watch Out!
- Last Pic.... fun project, gave it away to a friend, he was thrilled....to cheer him up a bit, he’s fighting melanoma

Gift ideas for a beginner / intermediate Posted: 07 Dec 2019 08:44 AM PST My Dad is getting back into wood carving after several years (decades?) out. I believe he already has some tools to get him back into it, but are there any ideas you can give more for christmas presents? I was thinking maybe oils, dyes, or some other finishing products perhaps. But I don't know what to get. I'm in the UK. [link] [comments] | ||
