Wood carving My step son likes to draw little characters so I thought it would be fun to carve one! Just a bit of basswood, sanded, waxed and lightly buffed.

Please, help me with antiquing solution

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 08:46 AM PDT

    Hello there,

I have started woodcarving recently so I am still very new to it. I follow some youtubers who use Antiquing Medium by Folk Art on their carvings and I absolutely love how it looks afterwards! The problem is that it is not easily available (UK) so I looked for other ways to get the same effect.

I found a recipe for Antiquing Solution online (by Bob K, minerals, burnt umber paint and burnt linseed oil).

I made the solution yesterday but it does not seem to work. It will work on a raw, unpainted carving but not on a painted one (acrylics). I did antique it before painting bit it is just not the same, not at all.

    What am I doing wrong?
