My pizza peel broke after I slapped it with too much gusto. I made this spatula out of the broken piece. First spoon/kitchen utensil I’ve carved. So much fun. Still learning. Any suggestions for finish? I was thinking linseed oil.

    Knife Sharpening Help

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 10:57 AM PST

Hi, sorry if this is breaking any rules as I came looking for a subreddit to get some help with this question: I'm looking for help with sharpening wood carving knives. I got a set of things from amazon, three knives, gloves, tiny tiny whetstone, strop etc. I looked up videos on sharpening the knives properly with a whetstone, so I bought a decent size one, 1000 & 6000 grit and I cannot for the life of me get the hang of it. I think the knives are less sharp than when I started, so I suppose my question really is "Is it possible to use something like a kitchen knife sharpener to sharpen carving knives?" I'm really excited to get back to carving, but I'm dreading if I have to go through a debacle every time I want to sharpen my knives.

Any advice would be massively appreciated.
