[Beginner WIP] My first carving! Not many people to share with, so showing you all. Got some smaller tools to get in and smooth out the fine detail work later this week. Learning so much.

My first and only attempt carving with a knife. It is Cottonwood. It was at a carvers' weekend in Pennsylvania at a campground. Lots of fun! If you can get a hold of some cottonwood, you'll see how easy it is to render something cool from it.

    Tree Trunk Carving Quote

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 07:17 AM PST

    Hi folks,

Hoping you can assist me in leveling my expectations for a price quote to have a tree trunk carved. I had a tree in my yard cut down because it was beginning to overhang my barn and was starting to lean quite a bit. I had the arborist leave about 6 feet of the trunk because I use it to hang my hammock. Rather than just having a plain trunk in my yard I thought it would be nice to have it carved into a bear statue. Before I reach out to local artists, I am trying to get a ball park of a price I can expect so I know whether or not the initial quote I get is fair or warrants some negotiation.

The trunk is about 6 feet tall and about 3 feet in diameter. Does any one have any experience in carving like this or has anyone had an artist do similar work?
