Looking for feedback to help my fellow makers

    Posted: 17 Jun 2021 08:52 AM PDT

Hey everyone! I'm an Artist + Web Designer and I've been creating a course for other Artists & Makers to help them with business basics, branding, and building a website to display and sell their work on.

(I'm not trying to sell anything to anyone here, just trying to build a course that is SUPER helpful for my fellow creators!)

The general course outline consists of:

    • Building a Creative Business Strategy
    • Branding for Artists & Makers
    • Site Strategy: How to Sell on Your Website
    • Setting Up Your Store on Shopify: FULL Step-by-Step Website Build and Demo
    • Setting Up Your Store's Back-End Functionality and Operations
    • Launching Your Store & Fulfilling Your First Orders

This is the first iteration of the course. In future versions, I also plan to add additional sections about optimizing your online store and marketing basics for Artists & Makers.

QUESTION: What information or topics do you want to learn about that you would like to see added to the list above?

question about staining and could use a FAST answer

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 06:49 PM PDT

i am engraving a wood slab and i was thinking about masking the embossed letters and staining the engraving with a darker cabernet color stain, removing the masking, and then staining the entire piece with a natural stain. question is can i stain over the darker cabernet? will the cabernet soak through the masking? (the masking works great on acrylic with spraypaint) any advice would be appreciated.

edit: ran a quick test piece and the application tape worked well, however, there was some bleeding into the un engraved wood. i guess the stain kinda steeped sideways..

    interesting..

Boiled linseed oil and Danish oil

I've never used either before, and have questions. When it warns of the combustion and disposing rags or paper towels in an airtight container, does that mean just throwing the crumpled paper towels in a sealed Ziploc bag?

Any other tips and pros and cons to using one over the other?
