    Tips for carving humans/animals?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 08:34 PM PDT

I've never even attempted to woodcarve, but I've always admired it and decided to order some stuff to get started since I can't leave my house. The main things I want to learn to carve is humans/animals, but obviously I know I cant just dive right into that. Any tips/excersises for getting started in lifelike creations? Or is carvings humans not feasible? what would you recommend I start with?

Also, looked through the sub and y'all are so talented its crazy.

Wood supply & wood carving supply near Baltimore?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 12:19 PM PDT

I'm looking for a local wood supply shop to purchase both wood stock & some hand tools.

Tool wise, I'm looking for a spoon carving knife or set of knives as well as a place to source wood.

I'm seeing a handful of tool shops but the ones around S. Baltimore look to be more geared towards production work, not as many handtools. I also see a shop or two closer to the Rockville area, but having trouble really finding a good spot within about 30min of S. Baltimore.

    TIA!
