Need help determining if my tools are enough for beginner woodcarving Posted: 19 Jun 2020 01:39 AM PDT Hello. I've asked my mom to buy me some wood carving tools and she bought me the following: - Mrika Ecowet P420 Sandpaper - Creston 6 - pc carving chisel set I read an internet article that says you need to use a pocket knife when trying to learn wood carving or whittling. Do I need to buy a pocket knife or any additional tools? I still have some leftover money to buy additional tools. Here's a pic of my tools: https://imgur.com/dfXzmA2 Thank you [link] [comments] | ||

Bare minimum, essential tools/knives for first timer? (EU) Posted: 17 Jun 2020 04:57 PM PDT Hey everyone, I think I'd like to try wood carving as a new hobby. But since I am not sure if I will actually stick to it I would like to avoid purchasing an entire set of tools. Because that seems expensive and probably unnecessary for a complete beginner. To give you an idea what I'd like to do: I would like to be able to make wooden figures/toys for kids. Nothing too detailed. Just the rough general shape of a horse or dog etc. Normally when it comes to tools I have the rule to buy the cheapest tool possible and when I used it enough that it breaks I will allow myself to buy a more expensive one. But I can imagine that this might not be the best strategy for wood carving, since ease of handling can probably determine whether or not the hobby is fun or frustrating no? So. Long story short: What would be the top 3 tools I need? Size? Brand? etc Living in Europe. [link] [comments] |
