    Stropping compound

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 06:11 AM PDT

Hey, just received my first carving knife and carved some interesting things. Now the knife isn't as sharp as from the box and I wanted to strop it, but I wondered what kind of stropping compound I should use. I used to use car polish compound but didn't get the wanted result. Does somebody have a suggestion for a good stropping compound?

How did you guys get so good at woodcarving?

    Posted: 13 Jul 2020 03:59 PM PDT

Went to hobby lobby got a bag of basswood blocks, a kit with all different types of tools and a half u shaped woodcarving knife. Did you get good just by practicing your own. Thing and just trying to make cool stuff, or did you practice by looking up how to videos and followed someone else's instructions until you got good?

Can I burnish a cabinet scraper with a ceramic rod or do I need to buy one of the steel rods meant for the purpose?
