A research question about tool materials

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 08:22 AM PST

I don't know if this is the right neighborhood for this question, but I'm wondering if I could get some help on a question that came up in a book I'm planning.

Are there any tools for wood working that don't contain metal AND can be made without using other metal tools? Essentially I am wondering about what woodworking and carving would look like in a world without metal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A little advice would be helpful

Can anyone please give me some advice on wood glues and gluing technique? I purchased a very delicate wood sculpture from someplace far away. It was wrapped amazingly well but despite that when the UPS driver threw it at my door (I'm assuming this is when) a foot broke off of the sculpture.

The break is jagged but clean, I attempted to do some research but felt like I was getting glue ads from companies with A+ marketing departments and nothing truly honest.

Could anyone advise me on best glue type to use? Do I brush it on to avoid over gluing and it squeezing out and looking obvious? I read hot glue is good but it seems temporary is that true? I also read use playdough to hold it together since I cannot clamp it, is that true? Is it at all out of the ordinary for me to find a woodworking shop and pay them to fix it? Any help is much appreciated. Thank You in advance!

    Wood carving direction

I've recently started carving. Nothing serious just carving faces into dead branches with a hunting or pocket knife, but I'm having a hard time with it. It feels like I'm carving a rock sometimes. Would you recommend getting a better knife? Or using milled wood instead? Thanks
