    Ideal moisture percent for carving.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 04:33 PM PDT

My friend gave me a 4x8x8 of basswood after I helped me run his mill for a day. I want to use it to start woodcarving. According to my moisture meter it's around 11-13%. Is this too wet to carve? And if so, what percent should I be shooting for?

Does anyone have experience with Kirschen woodcarving tools?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 01:41 PM PDT

Edit: Kirschen is called Two Cherries in the US, apparently. So information about Two Cherries is also very welcome!

I'm relatively new to woodcarving and I'm about to buy my own tools (so far I've been borrowing from others). I'm considering a set of knives and paring chisels by the German brand Kirschen.

Do any of you have experience with Kirschen? Good or bad?
