New to woodcarving. Will this set do me any good?

Hi, are there any carvers from Brazil in here? If so, I'd like to ask for some help - mainly knowledge about knife brands, wood recommendations, or any resource specific to the area...

    Spoon/Crooked/Hook Knife

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 03:45 PM PDT

    Good afternoon, all

I'm new to wood working and have been really enjoying it. Making spoons specifically. Very recently I purchased a crooked spoon to help me out. Anyway, it arrived and it wasn't very sharp so I thought I'd get right at it. I have watched a bunch of videos on how to do it. None of them seem to talk about a new knife and the trails of getting the edge right, so I started based on what they could tell me. Following the common suggestion of marking the bevel with a sharpie I started wet sandpaper filing with intention of getting rid of the sharpie.

Anyway, I'm struggling a little. A combination of intimidation and lack of knowledge. Here are a couple of pictures I took. I guess I don't really understand if, while sanding am I supposed to be rounding that bevel. Any suggestions on how to remediate or abandon my current attempts and trying something new would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance, all.
