    I usually do the latter, but what do people do and is there a difference or benefit to one way over the other?

    Here are the helpful tips I took from my last carving. Notice any improvement? Actual beaver craft carving knife, tried to keep it sharp, and used basswood. Was going to be a dodo bird but realized quickly that that isn't happening, lol. Now it is just a bird. Constructive criticism welcome!!
