- So I made this spoon (maple), and I want to know what type of stain I can use to make it look good, bit still be useable. Help?

Posted: 09 Sep 2021 12:22 AM PDT Hello, I'm new to woodcarving. I have a Mora 120 knife which is sharp but I am really struggling to carve. I've tried beech, apple, fresh (less than 24hrs cut) hazel and I struggle to make much impression or struggle to get the cuts to work. I've tried following Doug Linekar's videos on YouTube and trying the basic cuts, v, stop, the away from you one but I'm not getting anywhere and close to giving up. Any tips? [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Sep 2021 12:49 PM PDT My partner is just getting to wood carving, shaping twisted drift wood into green witch faces. It's their birthday coming up and I was hoping to upgrade their tool kit from their pen knife and exacto blades, but the sets I'm finding online all seem like poor quality. What are your favorite tools? What's been the most helpful addition to your kit? Is there any specific brand or market you're kin to? Thanks for any help! [link] [comments]
Huge live oak root knot & trunk exposed from Hurricane Ida. What can it become? Posted: 08 Sep 2021 05:42 PM PDT Pretty much just the title. Ida knocked over a huge oak or three on our farm (everyone safe and sound). They were HUGE and the root system is about 12 feet (3-4 meters) in diameter. Im thinking something artistic or creative could be done with that piece of wood since it is so infrequently available. I know basically nothing about this whole universe and I'm counting on Reddit to help. Go crazy with ideas, give me pitfalls, cost ranges, anything you can think of. Thank you so much!
