    Looking for pale woods

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 02:30 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any pale woods, as I'm looking into carving some Isle of Lewis chess pieces and I think a paler wood would look great.

I was also looking into whether whitewashing the piece after carving would work to get it paler, but I haven't seen it done on any carvings.

    Any suggestions are much appreciated!

I would like to try my hand at woodcarving. What are your recommendations for tools, wood types, and anything else I need to know. Thank you all!

    Where to buy gouges?

    Posted: 09 Nov 2021 02:41 PM PST

Where do you guy purchase your gouges from? I'm looking for a 30mm bent gouge with around a #8 sweep, but the only things I can really find are the seemingly sold out Pfeil gouge, and a bunch of expensive custom ones on Etsy.

I feel like I'm either botching the search term or completely missing an obvious source. Thank you!
