    Three quick questions

Hello everyone, hope you are well!

I have three questions, as I picked up my whittling knife yesterday (Morakniv 120 LC), some wood and am a complete beginner.

I'm really thankful for any comments I receive, as it would be hugely beneficial for me.

    Questions:

    1. Wood selection is really scarce where I live, so I was able to buy this yesterday, but it's really tough to whittle , breaks a lot and the blade often gets stuck and I need to pull upwards to break off pieces and release it (not sure if that's damaging to the blade). I tried both directions, to find the grain, but it seems equal. Not sure if I just picked up bad wood. (see image attached)
    2. I noticed some small dark indents on one side of the blade, which I'm not sure whether are a factory defect or normal and/or whether they affect the knife's quality. (see image attached)
    3. After some whittling yesterday, the knife's edge became rugged/chipped/wavy, just wanted to know if that's normal when whittling, (see image attached)

Thank you so, so much for any input, have a lovely day!

Question (potentially graphic description warning...idk anymore)

Im new to carving and I was carving a whale with me new beavercraft knife and, not realising how sharp it was (been using an xacto and utility knife till today when I got the proper kit) and I think I was holding the wood properly but the knife went through it almost like butter and straight through half my hand from between my thumb and forefinger to mid palm...surprisingly OK, got 8 stitches and only minor nerve and muscle damage but all bones OK (broke my other hand a couple months ago so not having to go through that again is just making me buzz with glee haha)

OK context set how in the hell can a flimsy fabric glove stand up to that? Is the tape wrap better or gloves really can withstand major screw ups.

I got some no cry gloves on the way (I am aware of the irony there) but should I get the tape too?

What projects can I hand carve with a 2"×2"x3' piece of wood. Is it reasonable to cut off a 3" section and carve an oval salt bowl?

New to wood carving. Trying the basics and want to work up to spoons, bowls, plateware.
