"Crossed" hardwood, me, 2020. I was just playing around with a glued up block and this was the result. The piece was ebonized with India ink and acrylic paint was used on the cross.

Can anyone recommend any good beginner wood carving set's for beginners? What advice would you give to someone looking to get into wood carving?

i'm looking to get into wood carving as a hobby and was wondering what brands, tools or start kits the community might recommend?

i did a google search and am pretty overwhelmed with the choices.

what are the best brands out there? what is the best wood to be using?

i literally have no idea where to start and would appreciate any advice you might be able to share with a noob.
    THANKS!

I bought a roughing knife instead of a detail knife, what is a roughing knife even used for?

Is there a chart somewhere to match bits, materials, action(carve/polish/etc) and speeds. I've looked and unfortunately can't find one.
