No power at home? Time to carve!

We got hit by a serious windstorm this weekend which knocked out our electricity as well as my Elm tree. After cleaning up the debris I decided to pass the time by turning one of my Elm's branches into something fun. Nothing fancy, the proportions are a bit off, but it was just a quick and dirty carving of television's greatest robot.

I haven't decided if he is "finished" yet. Now that I have power I may turn him a tiny antennae on my lathe.

carved with angle grinder. It's just wet as I have been sanding it. What would you finish it with? Mineral oil and bee's wax or seal it with some sort of urethane? Going to be a gift for my granddaughter.

My first attempt at wood carving, figured I would give it a go as I’ve been meaning to for months, it’s supposed to be a lions head although it does look a bit bear like

Interested in trying woodcarving. Any tips ?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 04:37 PM PDT

I'm interested in trying woodcarving, but not sure I'll be any good at it. Because I tend to turn a lot of hobbies I try into chores or tasks, causing me to no longer have any fun doing it , I'm afraid to try. Anyone have tips for a skeptical but very interested beginner ?
