Dragon “Tusk” for a tusked mortise-and-tenon. First attempt at hand-carving. Rough cut with bandsaw, not sure if that’s cheating? Very new to woodcarving but have experience in woodworking.

Working on a sign for my shed on an old fence board - first time carving using chisels and gouges rather than knives. Any tips for helping the board last as long as possible?

    stubs on a tree

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 03:23 PM PDT

i got a block of cut wood. but it has stubs on it. stubs meaning cut of branches. the branches are all cut very near the body of the block. i dont know how to carve it

i am trying to make the ruffly cut stubs smoother so that the grain is showing. but its such a difficult project.

i am using chisels. It take a really long time to carve and make smooth.

but the wooded cut block has such a beautiful interior color.

any suggestions on how to get past the stubs.
