[Newbie] I just received the 'Snitte: The Danish Art of Whittling: Make beautiful wooden birds'. It recommends a Bend Saw (or similar like a jigsaw) to cut out the basic outline of the bird, which I don't have. Can you recommend an alternative? Can I use the basic knife that was included? Beginner here. This is the first carving I've completed following basic Youtube tutorials. I welcome any suggestions on knives and carving techniques.

    3rd ever wood carving

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 10:54 PM PST

Made this "Tree of Life" for my wife this Christmas. It is in the Cordova woodcarving style from Cordova, NM. It is supposed to have a lot more animals, but I had to have carpel tunnel surgery right before Christmas. After I heal up, I'll carve a few more.

I'd love any constructive thoughts or suggestions for the future, to improve. Thanks!

Compound Powder covering knife while Stropping.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 05:29 PM PST

I just got this Taytools strop: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07WZVVGBD?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

It is my first strop. I rubbed the CrOx into the suede leather and went for it. Even after a few blades, there is a consistent powder of green CrOx that covers the blades while stropping. Is this normal? Is this crappy compound?

I spent the extra $10 to get a brand name so I would not have to worry about this... the irony 😂

    Thank you!
