Best resources and tools for learning how to carve

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 05:40 AM PST

Hey guys, Been watching all your carves and really love what you're doing. I've been doing some woodworking, woodburning etc and really wanted to try woodcarving or powercarving but haven't really found proper beginner guides. Can you guys and gals help me out where I can find a good place to learn. Some tips for which tools to get for starting out would also be greatly appreciated.

    Singular knife or knife set?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 03:17 AM PST

Hi I am a beginner and want to start carving wood, I will probably be doing mostly figure carving. Should I buy one or 2 good knives from drake or companies like that, or even what knife would you reccomend that has the most 'do it all'/versatility. Or should I buy a wood carving kit first from flexcut or beavercut. If so could I please get some good recommendations for both the individual knives, and kits.

I’m making this for my Boyfriend and will either give it to him for Valentine’s Day or for our Anniversary (a month later). He’s by no means finished, I need some sand paper for him. What do y’all think? Feedback welcome.

Dremel for carving away large chunks of wood

    Posted: 30 Jan 2021 03:10 PM PST

Hey all I was curious what your opinions of using a dremel for wood carving were. I'm trying to save my hands a bit so I purchased one to carve away the larger chunks of wood so I can get to shaping faster. Would using a cut off wheel be ok for this? I already have some lying around but they're usually used for steel, stone or shell/glass.

Anyone have experience with this? Do you consider this cheating? 😂 Thanks in advance.

Help with project ideas?? A guy I know has this walnut, and he offered it to me. I didn’t expect it to be cut so thin... what could I make with these pieces?
