Wood carving My first whittle! I only used a standard knife so it looks a bit rough. I'm 13, and I thought that this was harder than what it actually was. (Please no hateful comments, I'm just starting this thing :)

    Hand wood carving. Master class

    Posted: 31 Mar 2021 06:04 AM PDT

Made chainsaw carving last weekend. Have not carved anything in few years and that is my 8th carving overall. Used only Stihl ms170 chainsaw with standard bar and chain. Used blowtorch to give contrast to the wood for a nice finish. :)

    Best gifts for a woodcarver?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2021 08:09 AM PDT

I know a spooncarver with a birthday coming up, and I'm thinking of getting them a tool and/or online workshop. I'm not a carver myself, so I could use some advice!

They have a hatchet, curved knife, straight knife, and a chip carving knife. Are there any other great tools y'all have? Or do you know of any useful resources, workshops/classes, or books to gift?

    Thanks for the help!

Finishing coffee scoop that is stored in coffee grounds

    Posted: 31 Mar 2021 09:21 AM PDT

I carved a coffee scoop for myself a few months ago that I store in a jar of coffee grounds. I didn't finish it with any oil/wax because I was concerned about it leeching out into the coffee grounds. Now that I'm looking to make a few of these as presents I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for finishing them? Thanks!
