    Beginner looking for advice

    Posted: 09 Apr 2021 05:28 AM PDT

Hi, I'm a beginner, got some hand carving tools and a block of wood and am really enjoying the process so far. What are some ways that you secure the piece you're working on while you work on it to avoid injury? I've cut myself already, due to holding the wood with one hand and a tool in another. I've seen some nice workshop tables with built in clamps to hold the block of wood, but am not ready to invest in that yet. I would like to continue but would prefer to find a way to secure the wood I'm working with for safety reasons. Any suggestions?

Can I start out with an outdoors knife?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 01:30 PM PDT

I have two decent outdoor knives, can one start with that? I wouldn't want to buy stuff I might regret.

It's Boker Plus Outdoorsman and Bahco knife.

And how unrealistic it is to stick with them for some time?

    Thanks.
