Fake Flexcut Carving Jack? Or poor quality?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 07:20 AM PDT

I just purchased a Carvin' Jack from Amazon. This is the model with six tools. The quality was not what I expected based on reviews I have watched. Here are some examples:

    • Detail knife "top" (spine?) is rough - one corner edge is smooth, the other looks like it wasn't machined after stamping
    • Detail knife is partly painted - not referring to the mirrored blade vs upper portion. The upper portion that should be black looks like it was badly spray painted, heavy on one end, light on the other.
    • The brass rivets are a little sharp on one side - enough so that they actually catch your skin if you run your finger past them
    • The wood inlay is slightly raised and was splintered on the ends, presumably during finishing. A small chunk came off when I ran my fingers over it

The packaging looks good, so I lean towards poor quality. Or, this normal quality, and my expectations were off. Maybe reviewers know to expect to this and therefore don't mention it.

Any thoughts? I'm taking care of the sharp edges so I can use it, but didn't think that should be necessary.

    Thanks, David
