    Advice for a beginner

    Hey All

I've been wanting to get into wood carving for a little while now but have absolutely no idea where to start, in terms of what gear to buy and where to learn.

Looking at making handheld items nothing large.

Any advice is very much appreciated 👍

My girlfriend has been wanting to do some wood carving so I've ordered a set of tools for her as a surprise. I was wondering what types of wood are good to work with, and what are some good places to get wood (UK)? Thanks for any help.

    Question about drying apple wood

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 07:22 AM PST

I've always just bought basswood online. However earlier this year I had to cut down a big apple tree in my parents yard. All the wood has been stacked up in a pile and left outside for months.

Would this wood be usable for carving and how long would I need to wait before using it? I'm guessing it's best to bring whatever wood I want to use indoors for a while?

I've never used my own wood before so any tips would be great!
