How to I make a small hole/ hollow bowl in a tiny wood project?

I am a jewelry designer and I often use wood in my pieces. I am currently working on a pair that I taken my wood spheres and shaped them into an eyeball shape. I am wanting to carve out a small bowl shape in the center as the iris where I would like to place a round stone, but for the life of me i just cannot figure out how to do this. I know this shouldn't be that hard, I feel very stupid. I have tried a small burr (maybe this is the answer and i'm just not doing it right?). I'm afraid to just use a drill bit because the piece is so tiny. (see attached) Any help would be greatly appreciated bc i would really like to finish these damn things! I assume there is any easy solution that I am currently too stupid to see 😇
