- First carving ever. I made this hobo reel from birch wood. Freshly cut today. Can I go ahead and stain it? Cut about 6hrs ago. Does it need to dry more? How long?

- Not sure if this is the right thread but I want to carve a chess set. I have no experience or knowledge on how to get started or where to go for information except Reddit. Any help would be appreciated.

Objects to carve as an extreme beginer Posted: 29 Jun 2020 04:23 AM PDT Hi Everyone. I am just starting out with carving. I live in Pakistan and here the wood carving techniques and tools are very different from the rest of the world... One reason being that as in a Muslim majority country, carving faces is out of the question because of religious reasons. Can't get into details, it just is. Also, I am unable to find a wood carving knife. The techniques used here don't require a knife. Its all chisels and tools like that. I bought some fine detailing tools online buy that is about it. I can get a carving knife custom made. Can someone help me a some good designs I can show to a knife maker? Also what items or things can I carve as a beginner that don't have faces. Not into selling items yet, since I don't have that level of skills to create something like that. So anything that can increase my skill will. I am extremely good at copying stuff. So reference images will be preferred. I will attach the images of the tools I was able to find online. I am unable to attach the images here. Will see of I can attach them in the comments. Thanks. Posted: 28 Jun 2020 04:59 PM PDT As suggested by some users in the sub I checked the website for beginner and the suggested tools. Watching Doug Linker, I saw this video (https://youtu.be/g7vTE9l9WVs) at minute 14.03 he is showing a detail knife, v tool and and micro tools. I'm not sure about the size mentioned, are you able to advise me the same or similar tools? I'm pretty bad to check in the websites from the producer and I cannot find the micro tools and the V tool but I'm ending to find a sweeper. I will check if I can find something for here in Ireland or shipping from US. Thanks! [link] [comments] | ||
