- These are my first ever carvings. Really enjoying this new hobby! Anybody have tips on how to get a cleaner cut on basswood? I kept getting splintered wood on the beard and little crumbs I couldn’t get out of some crevices.

Posted: 24 Jun 2020 09:05 AM PDT So I've begun my first project and I'm realizing how difficult it is to get the contour of the shape I want from the block. Considering buying a band saw or scroll saw. Any recommendations? [link] [comments] | ||

Posted: 23 Jun 2020 12:52 PM PDT Hello there, I'm a begginer who intends to buy a BeaverCraft set of knives (Ref: S13) including a 3 inches roughout blade, a hook knife and chip carving knife. I'm hesitating about adding a kogatana type of blade (Ref: C12. I'm not a native speaker, apparently in English that would be a "skew" knife?) Along with the small chip carving knives, I read that those are supposedly meant for details, and geometrical ones. However, some woodworkers who favour japanese tools mention that type of knife as the one you should buy if you couldn't get any others, something that is also sometimes said of long blades like the Mora 106. Do you think the kogatana would be redudant buy or not, along with that kit ? I mostly plan to carve useful everyday objects rather than figurines. Thank you ! [link] [comments] |
