This started as a mouse trap! New to carving!! I’ve carved a few fishing lures and decided to try something new with the thin board from a mouse trap and I’d say this was a success! I used markers for the final color.

Hi fellow wood carvers. This question isn't entirely about carving but it is about wood... I was wondering if anyone knows what's going on with this tree? Is that natural? It's like it's been shot with a shotgun upclose.

First time carving basswood, for those who haven't used it, it's as soft as pine but without the splintering. Definitely recommend.

    Are dust masks required?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 05:11 PM PDT

I'm pretty new to carving and had never thought about this before, but I saw some posts about what kinds of dust masks you should use while working with wood. Are they necessary for carving? I wouldn't expect any real amount of dust to be made by carving.
