Wood carving A little squid

• A little squid
• Ebony cicada. Finished with silver cartouche. Hope you like it. A bit smaller than the minotaur beetle so, quite fiddly.
• First attempt at carving
• Made a lap bench from wood carver illustrated. Not exact to their design but it works great! Helps from keeping chips all over the floor.
• Female torso. Butternut. By me.
• The Tulgey Wood
• Added in the beard detail. Happy with it, now onto the next
• "Puzzling", Sassafras, me, 2020. Functional art? Puzzling art? Or maybe just charcuterie boards??
• Momentary lapse. Chisel through the finger. Please be careful everyone!
• Professional female carpenter - Many people say carpentry is not for women, I have proved this wrong, lol
• Professional carpenter carving pattern for cabinet legs in vintage style...
• Purple ring. Material - stabilized Ash Tree wood

The Tulgey Wood Posted: 30 Sep 2020 07:26 AM PDT There was once a girl who wanted to start working with wood. She bought a recommended set of tools for a reasonable price for a beginner. She got a piece of wood to experiment with. She remembered reading that you must ALWAYS carve WITH the grain. She identified the grain direction. She slid her blade across, in the direction of the grain. Perfect. BUT WAIT. How would she know if she is doing it right? Surely she should try to deliberately cut against the grain, just to see what it feels like. That way, if she ever does it wrong, she'll know immediately by the texture that something is not right.
