Posted: 26 Jan 2021 01:47 AM PST Hey all, I'm sure you're bored of seeing these kinds of posts haha, but I'm really interested in getting into woodcarving as means of keeping myself busy during my 4th furloughing. Any advice or pointers of what kit to get to start and how to get a hold of decent wood to carve? Any advice at all is appreciated! Cheers! [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Jan 2021 09:35 PM PST So I have a two knives (I'm still fairly new), a Swiss Army Knife (we'll call it SAK) and a Buck Trio knife. The SAK is actually sharper, I somehow am better at sharpening it. The Buck knife is what I don't get. My sharpening technique won't work on it. Here is the technique: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LwzjtOeg9g Is there something I am doing wrong? Please help, right now I barely use the Buck knife even though I want to. Any help appreciated. Posted: 25 Jan 2021 09:30 PM PST So I am fairly new to carving (I'd like to think I am better than I actually am) and I have no power tools. Just keep that in mind. I also live in Northern California, by Stanford Campus. I don't know if it's just me/my neighborhood, but all the trees that are best for wood carving seemingly are on the east coast (United States). I always try to use basswood for small projects but if I get anything to big I can't create a blank (again no band saw, working on getting a coping saw) so I generally try to find all my large projects. I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas about wood I can get that would be good for carving, or any stores that might sell me a coping saw or just good woodworking stores in general? I know that amazon is an option but I am just overwhelmed with all the options. Any help appreciated. [link] [comments]
