Carving Internally - Tool to use

I want to carve an internal hallow, almost like this this video. He is using an angle grinder with a wood-cutting attachment, correct?

Is there another way to accomplish this? I don't have any power tools except a drill, although I could purchase an angle grinder if need be.

I was also considering getting a few forstner bits and going really slow, then sanding out the final shape. Any advice appreciated.

Gifts for woodcarvers?

Hi there. A friend of mine recently got into wood carving and I want to buy him something for Christmas around the £30 ($35-40?) Mark. All I know is he's got a set of 5 knives, not sure what make or gauges, and don't know what books he's got, if any. Keen to avoid buying him something he already has.

Is there anything you've discovered as you got deeper into the hobby that you wish you'd had right from the start?
